Khurshid Alam: this is what I am

I am a life long learner and an activist for advancing rights of the people in disaster, injustice and poverty. I earned a masterís in anthropology in 1995 from prestigious Jahangirnagar University in Bangladesh.

I am an independent researcher and consultant on disaster and climate change-with specific focus on global humanitarian policy, climate change adaptation, livelihood, humanitarian response and disaster risk reduction.  I worked extensively around the world, in al most all major emergencies in last 12 years. My experience comes from at least 25 countries in South and Southeast Asia, Horn of Africa and Europe.

I had extensive opportunities to work directly with poor people, wide range of civil society organizations, governments and lobbing in the international conferences. I share my experiences in my writings published by prestigious journals and organizations. Most of them are available in this website.

Before adapting an independent profession in 2006, I was employed by ActionAid international for many years as Head of Livelihoods and disaster reduction (Bangladesh), Policy advisor (London) and Emergencies Advisor (Asia) and finally International Coordinator responsible for a six country £30 million Tsunami response programmes based in India/Sri Lanka.

I live in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
